Divorce

Attleboro, Massachusetts: Divorce Lawyers

Bristol County ∙ Norfolk County ∙ Plymouth County ∙ Barnstable County ∙ Worcester County

Massachusetts is a no-fault divorce state. This means that a spouse who wants a divorce needs to state no reason other than "the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage." How long it takes to get a divorce depends on whether the spouses can agree on issues such as child custody, child support, alimony and property division. If the spouses cannot agree and the divorce goes all the way to a formal court hearing, the entire divorce process can take two years or more.

If you are considering divorce, whether you think you will file no-fault or fault, it is important to seek legal advice early — and independently of your spouse. With an early legal consultation, your attorney can help you take steps that will put you at an advantage relative to your spouse when the divorce proceedings begin — which will help you more quickly obtain a secure future for yourself and any children you may have.

The Divorce Attorneys of Volterra, Goldberg & Jacobs, Law Counsellors, Inc.

Since 1975, the lawyers of Volterra, Goldberg & Jacobs have been providing diligent and zealous legal representation to spouses in both no-fault and fault-based divorce cases. We are available to represent either spouse in any type of divorce — a contested or uncontested divorce, the dissolution of a marriage with or without children, a divorce for a family with or without many assets or high debt. We also handle divorces for same-sex couples who were married after the 2003 decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Court in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health.

In addition to representing individual spouses in divorce actions, Volterra, Goldberg & Jacobs also offers divorce mediation services.

Our attorneys — each of whom has more than a decade of legal experience — are known in the legal community as well-prepared, hard-working and successful divorce attorneys. We have a well-deserved reputation for aggressive pursuit of our clients' goals in all family law cases, including divorces.
